The Art of Stewardship

HONORING THE RAW SOUL OF URUSHI & THE BOTANICAL BOND THROUGH DAILY RITUALS

The Essence of Composition

Every GORRAH piece is a symphony of natural elements. The exterior is adorned with Natural Silk and Artisanal Metal accents, while the interior is sealed with Refined Urushi (Shu-qi). Unlike raw lacquer, our refined lacquer undergoes filtration and high-temperature curing to eliminate allergens and ensure a dense, water-resistant finish that strictly complies with international food-contact safety standards.

The Awakening Ritual

Before its first use, we invite you to awaken the soul of your gourd:

  • Gentle Purification: Fill with 30-40°C warm water, shake gently for 20 seconds, and repeat 3 times to remove any trace of natural botanical fibers.
  • Breath of Air: Invert the gourd in a cool, ventilated sanctuary for 2-4 hours. Never use heated air or direct sunlight to accelerate this process.
  • Thermal Adaptation: For the first fill, use water under 40°C for 30 minutes. In subsequent journeys, the vessel can gracefully hold liquids up to 85°C.

Daily Purification & Nourishment

Maintain the luster of the lacquer through gentle dialogue:

  • Pure Water Only: Clean with 25-40°C water using a soft cotton cloth. Strictly avoid chemical detergents, as they will erode the botanical lacquer soul.
  • Artisanal Glow: If the exterior feels dry over time, apply a drop of Food-grade Walnut Oil with a soft cloth. Let it rest for 10 minutes before wiping away the excess. (External use only).

Environmental Harmony

Your gourd breathes with its environment. Store in a cool space with 40%-60% humidity. Excessive dryness may cause the wood to whisper and crack, while extreme humidity invites dampness. Shield it from the gaze of direct UV rays to prevent the fading of its ancient colors.

Forbidden Interventions

To preserve the vessel's integrity, avoid these actions:

  • No microwave, oven, dishwasher, or sterilization cabinets.
  • No metal brushes or abrasive tools that might scar the lacquer's skin.
  • Do not store highly acidic or alkaline liquids (lemon juice, soda) for extended periods.
  • Never expose to open flames for heating.

The Elegance of Aging

As time flows, your GORRAH piece will evolve. The Patina of the lacquer will transition from a vibrant glow to a warm, deep luster. The natural gourd body will darken, revealing clearer grains—a living record of the bond between the craft and its collector.
